Harm Reduction Outreach

Our team provides a variety of harm reduction and addiction services including support groups and individual counselling, distributing safer-use supplies, street outreach, and auricular acupuncture to help with anxiety and withdrawal symptoms.

Individual Counselling

We offer individual counselling that focuses on substance use and related areas (trauma, oppression, support to deal with systems – legal, health, immigration, etc.). We use a harm reduction framework to support people who use drugs, to live better according to the person’s own definition of better.

Counselling happens on an outreach basis. We can meet clients where they are most comfortable; a local neighbourhood spot, park, downtown location, or at our office. Counselling includes the distribution of free safer-use and safer-sex supplies.

Practical Support

We provide practical support to help clients with substance use issues achieve their daily living goals. The Practical Support Worker assists clients to identify areas in their lives that need support to sustain housing and health. Examples include accompanying clients to health care appointments, helping complete required forms to various agencies, attending tribunal and court hearings, and connecting clients to appropriate agency programs that further support their goals.

Join In/Stay Out
Join In/Stay Out is an ongoing weekly support and discussion group for women who have experienced conflict with the law. The goal is to create an empowering and respectful space for women to give and receive support, share resources, and decrease isolation. Join In/Stay Out runs every Tuesday from 2:00 - 4:00 pm at 17 Phoebe Street. This group is facilitated in partnership with the Toronto Rape Crisis Centre/Multicultural Women Against Rape and Breakaway Addiction Services. Transpeople are welcome, and the space is fully accessible. Lunch is provided and women are welcome to drop in.

Grief and Loss, Education and Action Group
Women who have children apprehended by child welfare systems experience a great deal of trauma and grief that often goes unrecognized, especially if drugs and alcohol were involved. The goal of this group is to focus on women's voices and create an opportunity to speak, be heard and acknowledged around their experiences of loss: one mother to another - through sharing, learning about coping strategies, creating art, and educating others about women’s experiences.

*This gender-specific group is also offered as a fathers’ group.

Auricular Acupuncture

We offer free auricular acupuncture, which is a specialized complementary therapy where acupuncture points on the outer ear are treated. Some benefits of auricular acupuncture are: reduced withdrawal symptoms (helps with aches, headaches, nausea, sweats, cramping, restlessness & cravings), reduced anxiety and/or depression, physical and emotional balance, and better sleep.
